MG740PLUS E-bike with 2 motors — Nerd Test

First impression

When I unpacked the MG740PLUS, I was greeted by a huge bike — a sturdy aluminum frame, 26-inch wheels with 4.0″ “fat tires” and a considerable weight, although logical for an electric with a dual motor. This e-bike works like a “drug” for gravel and urban chaos — which means you know from the start: this is not just a city touring bike, but something more serious.

Quality and materials

The frame is aluminum with welded joints and a thick layer of paint. The front fork has adjustable oil suspension, which is not standard on all electric bikes in this class. The dual motor (2× 1000 W) configuration delivers concrete power. The battery is 48 V and 20 Ah (960 Wh) according to specifications.
The cheaper components (e.g. gear lever, some small welded joints) make it clear that we are in the “good middle class”, not pure premium. However, the construction looks well thought out and sturdy enough for demanding use.

🔧 Performance and usability

  • Engine: Two 48 V 1000 W brushless motors (total power ~2000 W) allow for fast acceleration and easy climbing of short climbs.
  • Battery and range: According to the manufacturer's laboratory data, "up to 60–70 km in pure electric mode" and "120–150 km with pedal-assist". In practice, I achieved around 55-65 km in "pure electric" mode under higher loads — as expected given the specification.
  • Off-road bike: The thick 26″×4.0″ tires offer exceptional grip, the suspension ensures comfort, and the weight of ~34 kg means you won't just "put it in the trunk".
  • Usability: For the recreational rider who wants speed, power, and looks — the MG740PLUS meets all expectations. For city use or light cycling, the model may be overpriced and you'd be better off looking for something cheaper.
  • Brake system and equipment: Hydraulic discs, Shimano 7-speed transmission, clearly visible LCD control panel. All these elements are a plus.
  • Negative: The weight is heavy — 34 kg is really an “electric motorcycle”. Be careful when storing or transporting. The service network for specific parts (dual motor, fat tire) is quite well spread.

Design and feel

The bike acts as a bold cross between an off-road motorcycle and an electric bike. The color combinations are blue/black on some models, and the “fat tire” look makes a strong visual impression. The LCD panel and the privately integrated battery provide a “modern” look. For those who want to stand out, this bike is right for them. For the average user? Maybe a bit too much of a “statement”.

Price and value

Considering the specifications, dual motor, fat tires and battery of around 960 Wh, the price seems reasonable. If you use it for off-road, traveling or replacing a car in city use — the investment value is more than acceptable. If you are buying it for everyday riding on asphalt without demanding trips into nature, this bike may not be for you.
All things considered – I rate the value for money as excellent.

Advantages

  • Very powerful performance (2×1000 W) and impressive battery.
  • Fat tires + suspension = a great combination for off-road.
  • Well equipped: Shimano gear shift, hydraulic brakes, LCD odometer.
  • Integrated premium look and “nerd tech” feel

Disadvantages

  • The weight (~34 kg) makes it more difficult to transport/park.
  • Service and spare parts for the dual-motor configuration are less widely available.
  • For exclusive city driving, some of the functionality is unnecessary and perhaps unused.
  • Size and dimensions: the bike requires space for storage and transportation.

Final score: 8,5 / 10

The MG740PLUS is a great choice for those looking for a powerful electric bike with serious off-road potential, and are willing to make some compromises (weight, size...). But if you want a more everyday urban electric bike, there are lighter and probably more optimal alternatives.
